Is the whole route dry and open?

No opening status is verified here. This is a model estimate; local puddles, damage and closures may differ. 341 calculated segments across 2 weather cells. Follow land-manager notices.

When will this route dry?

A current surface score does not establish a drying time. Check the rainfall observation time, refresh stale inputs and review local reports before leaving.

Route and access notes

The Mount Whitney Trail climbs from Whitney Portal toward the summit through high Sierra terrain. This is a one-way hiking route assessment, not a complete return-trip distance or a mountaineering safety forecast.

Planning this route

The source line runs from Whitney Portal to the summit and measures about 17 km one way; the Forest Service describes an approximately 11-mile ascent. Include the descent in your plan. A dry surface score does not assess altitude, exhaustion, lightning, snow travel or avalanche danger.

Access and source limitations

Mount Whitney access is subject to permits and quotas. Consult the official permit page for your dates and itinerary, including day-use versus overnight requirements. Snow and ice can require mountaineering skills and equipment; this page does not confirm the route is safe or open.
