The refreshed connected geometry is 86.1 km, close to the operator's 82 km route listing. Scotland's Great Trails suggests three to five days and warns that intersecting local paths can be confusing, so carry a suitable map rather than relying on this conditions page for navigation.

Access and source limitations

The route through Peebles is not waymarked and follows tarmac road. The section from the A70 to the top of the Pentlands is less suitable for horses, and boggy ground occurs between Harperrig Reservoir and Cauldstane Slap.
